Webmaster Settlement Act

The Webmaster Settlement Act has passed in a vote in the House, paving the way for a Senate vote and possible salvation for Internet radio stations. After last year’s increase in royalties for streaming music, many services such as Pandora and Last.fm faced an impossible economic environment.
This legislation allows them to negotiate rates directly with record companies. While the National Association of Broadcasters initially opposed the bill, they have removed their objections which should help the bill sail smoothly to passage.

Negotiate rates directly??? How dare they!!! The next thing we know Medicare will be able to negotiate rates with pharmaceutical companies! Free market principles be damned–it’s all about protecting the big guys. Welfare moms? Hell No. Corporate welfare? Hell Yeah!
