Mark Wilson, Editor Palin Thinks Trials are for Wusses

This guy Mark Bowden from the Philadelphia Inquirer has it right on the money. I remember watching Sarah Palin say, with contempt spittling out of her mouth, “Al-Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America. He’s worried that someone won’t read them their rights.” My eyebrow furred a little. What’s wrong with reading them their rights?

“He” is, of course, Barack Obama. And what He will do is give those we have arrested in a complex and tangled field of battle the chance to contest their imprisonment. Unless, of course, you believe that the military arrests people with 100% accuracy every time. This from the Republican candidate? “Don’t trust your government to interfere with your wallet. Down with taxes. Privatize the congress. But you can trust our policemen!” So much for the party of less government. They’ve just shifted the government’s weight a little. Keep the billion-dollar stealth bombers coming in.

Bowden compares Palin’s attitude to that of a lynch mob’s: “Because a man has been arrested, he is guilty. End of story.” Is this the promise of a McCain/Palin future? A United States in which the government can “just call someone a terrorist, arrest him, and hold him indefinitely without showing some reasonable cause.” I mean, the government wouldn’t call people terrorists just to silence legitimate speech, right?
