‘McCain Supporter Attack’ a Hoax

Yesterday, the McCain campaign pushed a story that wholesome, 20-year-old Texan, Ashley Todd was attacked at an ATM in Pittsburgh by a “scary, tall black man” who carved a “B” (for Barack Obama) on her face.

What happened next?

Drudge reported it as fact.
The Politico’s Jonathon Martin shamelessly ran with the story without properly checking his sources.
The story spread all over the internet as fact since it was vouched for by a supposed serious political organization like The Politico.
Word came today that the story was a hoax from a McCain volunteer

Even the vice president of Fox News is calling out McCain’s campaign for what this is–blatant race-baiting.
